Na noite de 1º de setembro de 1969, um fenômeno inexplicável ocorreu no Condado de Berkshire, Massachusetts. Várias testemunhas relataram ter visto luzes estranhas e experimentando outras ocorrências estranhas. Algumas testemunhas relataram ter sido sequestradas e levadas a bordo de uma nave estranha antes de serem liberadas. Outros relataram ter experimentado um fenômeno conhecido como ” Tempo perdido “. Até hoje, suas experiências permanecem inexplicadas.

Por volta do crepúsculo de 1º de setembro de 1969, Jane estava dirigindo com sua amiga Mary DeGrace (agora falecida) de Stockbridge para Great Barrington. Enquanto dirigiam pela estrada, eles viram várias luzes brilhantes à frente deles. A princípio, Jane pensou que tivesse ocorrido um acidente e que as luzes fossem de carros de polícia. Ao se aproximar, percebeu que não podia mais dirigir porque as luzes estavam muito fortes. Ela decidiu encostar no acostamento. O carro na frente deles fez o mesmo.


Jane e Mary saíram do carro para ver melhor. Eles viram um objeto enorme flutuando sobre a estrada na frente deles. Era tão grande que Jane não conseguia ver sua extremidade nem da direita nem da esquerda. Ela não sabia dizer de que cor era, mas se lembrou de que era alto e imenso. Ela não viu nenhuma janela e não ouviu nenhum barulho vindo dela. Em poucos segundos, o objeto se ergueu, foi para a esquerda, ergueu-se novamente e então passou pelas montanhas.


Mais ou menos na mesma época, Tom estava pintando a casa de sua vizinha Jane Shaw. Quando escureceu, ele se aproximou e olhou pela janela. Ele ouviu uma voz dizer: “Você precisa ir para casa agora”. Temeroso, ele imediatamente saiu correndo de casa e atravessou o jardim da frente. Jane saiu e observou-o correr imóvel por cerca de cinco minutos. Quando ele percebeu que não estava se movendo, ele sabia que algo estava errado. Ele então se virou para a esquerda e viu um OVNI cair do céu. Um raio da nave veio para cima dele. Quando a luz brilhou sobre ele, suas mãos se sacudiram para trás. Jane viu a luz ao seu redor e então percebeu que ele desapareceu.


Naquela mesma noite, Melanie e sua família foram ao Dairy Queen local para comprar sorvete. Eles foram então para Lake Mansfield, que ficava a três quilômetros das casas de Tom e Jane Shaw. Quando seu pai entrou de ré no estacionamento, uma aura brilhante e brilhante envolveu o carro. Todos no carro começaram a entrar em pânico. Seu pai decidiu perseguir a luz, apesar de Melanie implorar para que ele não o fizesse. Ela e a irmã começaram a tremer de medo. Sua irmã não se lembrou de mais nada depois disso. Ela então teve que caminhar para casa.


Enquanto isso, Tom lembrou-se ao mesmo tempo de ser deitado de costas na outra extremidade da propriedade da família Shaw. Uma viga ainda o cercava. Seu irmão estava atrás dele e gritou para ele correr. No entanto, ele disse que não podia correr porque a trave o segurava. A voz voltou para ele e disse: “Termino em um minuto”. Em um minuto, o feixe de luz se apagou e ele conseguiu se levantar. Ele se virou e viu a luz desaparecer. Jane Shaw lembrou que sete minutos se passaram entre o momento em que ele foi apanhado e devolvido. Melanie e Tom não se conheciam de antemão. Quando eles se encontraram pela primeira vez, ela sentiu uma conexão imediata com ele.


No início da tarde, Thom Reed estava participando de uma exposição de cavalos. Depois de quase se ferir em um acidente de cavalo, Nancy decidiu que o dia terminara. Eles foram fechar seu Diner, The Village Green. Eles saíram por volta das 20h30 e decidiram pegar o atalho para casa pela ponte Sheffield. O local fica a seis milhas ao sul de Great Barrington. No carro com Nancy e Thom estavam sua mãe e seu irmão mais novo, Matthew. Quando sua mãe se virou para falar com as crianças, ela notou uma luz brilhante subindo das margens do rio Housatonic.


Ao saírem da ponte, todos viram uma lança leve pairando sobre dois andares de altura. Ao se erguer, Thom viu que ele disparava bastões de luz. Matthew olhou para a direita e viu uma segunda esfera laranja. Enquanto eles dirigiam lentamente, eles notaram que tudo ficou quieto. Eles sentiram uma mudança de pressão, como se estivessem debaixo d’água. A esfera branca desapareceu. Então, Nancy percebeu um objeto em forma de disco pairando no céu. Parecia um casco de tartaruga. Eles tinham memória fragmentada do tempo perdido. O carro estava desligado e Nancy e sua mãe Marion estavam em lugares opostos. Marion ligou o carro e voltou a Sheffield para obter ajuda. Jane Green disse que não acreditava em OVNIs e discos voadores até aquela noite. Ela entrou na loja e contou ao marido a experiência deles. Ele disse a ela para relatar para a estação de rádio. Ela foi lá e se encontrou com Tom Jay, o diretor da Rádio WSBS. Jane Green ficou aliviada ao saber que outras pessoas tinham visto os OVNIs porque ela tinha certeza de que ninguém acreditaria nela. Histórias recentes sobre pilotos da Marinha dos EUA vendo OVNIs levaram ela e outras pessoas a se sentirem mais à vontade para contar suas histórias. Melanie observou que não tinha motivos para inventar sua história porque não era uma experiência divertida ou positiva. Investigação

O historiador da Berkshire Gary Leveile investigou o caso, mas não conseguiu encontrar nenhum relato de avistamentos de OVNIs no jornal local durante o mês de setembro de 1969. Ele acredita que não foi relatado porque as pessoas pensaram que era uma piada. Na verdade, ele conversou com um editor local que disse ter ouvido falar sobre os avistamentos, mas achou que eram falsos, então não colocou nada sobre eles no jornal.
